One of those moments in Lake Como

While exploring today a small village on the shores of Lake Como, we had a moment to remember. We came across an elderly gent high on a ladder picking his figs – he stopped and explained in Italian that they are ripe for picking twice each year – in May and September. After a brief chat and without any prompting, he picked and threw each of us a ripe fig to try. The taste was sensational  - sweet and juicy and the centre was bright red – so different to what we have tasted at home. Buonissimo!!
